What has the Federation achieved?
What is the North Lanarkshire Federation?
The North Lanarkshire Federation of Tenant's and Resident's Associations (NLF) was established in September 2006. The Federation covers the whole of North Lanarkshire, supporting local groups and working to develop services in North Lanarkshire.
NLF is one of the Scotland’s largest and youngest Federations promoting tenants rights. It works tirelessly to enhance the voice of North Lanarkshire Council’s 37,000 tenants and their neighbours to have a meaningful impact into housing and related services. The need to have a constituted area wide Federation was identified, developed and is managed by residents for residents. The aims of the Federation are to:
1. Assist, establish and unify tenant & resident groups in North Lanarkshire
2. To work in partnership with landlords and service providers
3. To uphold equal opportunities and encourage community participation
4. To keep tenants groups fully informed and ensure adequate resources for tenant groups
The Federation is managed by an Executive Committee (EC) of up to twelve people who meet fortnightly throughout the year to manage the work.
So who is on the Committee?
Anne McGhee - Chairperson
Owen Toal - Vice Chairperson
Elaine McCondochie - Secretary
Betty Dunphy - Committee Member
Donald Brown - Committee Member
How does the Federation involve its members?
The strength of the Federation comes from its members and public support. Local groups have an input into the Federation through many different ways including:
1. Open/General Meetings and other events. Our last open meeting was our AGM and Annual Conference which was held in Motherwell College on Saturday 21st May 2011.
2. Workshops
3. Conferences - We were involved with the North Lanarkshire Council Tenants Conference held in Airdrie Academy last November.
4. Sub-groups - currently on Roads & Street Lighting, Waste Management, Constitution and A group for tower blocks in Motherwell
5. Written consultation and surveys. We have consulted on funding for tenants groups, estate walkabouts and in-kind support for tenants groups in North Lanarkshire. Other consultation is announced via the site.
6. Local group meetings. We are always keen to come out and meet local groups. If you would like us to visit your group then please call 01236 435 844 to arrange this.
7. Phonecalls & Letters
8. Giving groups free publicity. Our newsletter goes out to all public places in North Lanarkshire including community centres, first stop shops, housing offices, libraries and also to all tenants group in North Lanarkshire.
